The Hi-Tech Diamond rock/mineral disc kit comes with everything you need to polish rocks, minerals, synthetic material and metal. It is the same kit that is included with the All-U-Need rock/mineral model and Slant Cabber rock/mineral model lap machines. This kit is great for replacing all of your diamond smoothing discs at once. Both 6″ and 8″ diameter size kits are available with and without backing plates.

The diamond smoothing discs included in this kit ensures rapid removal of scratches and high spots on cabochons. Using a propriety technique, a high concentration of premium diamond is loaded onto each disc to provide an extremely aggressive grinding rate yet leaves an exceptionally smooth surface finish. Each disc is color coded to easily determine what grit the disc is. These smoothing discs are guaranteed to out-perform silicon carbide sanding discs and other diamond compound finishing systems. Depending on the care and material you are working with, these discs on average will last for 100 to 200 pieces. They do not crack or peel either.

Our Tech-11 polishing pad and diamond paste included in this kit ensures a nice polish on your finished pieces. The Tech-11 polishing pad is made with high-density wool felt to replace leather pads. You must charge this pad with diamond compound before use.

All discs included in this kit come with a 3M pressure sensitive adhesive backing that easily bonds to backing plates, flexible discs and polishing heads. Discs also have 1/2" arbor holes. Our sponge pads may be inserted under these smoothing discs to create a soft touch for cabochon work. Note: You need a backing plate to use these diamond smoothing discs and Tech-11 polishing pad.

IMPORTANT PURCHASING NOTES: This rock/mineral disc kit can be used on any Hi-Tech Diamond All-U-Need and/or Hi-Tech Diamond Slant Cabber. It is also specially designed to grind, shape and polish rocks, minerals, synthetic material and metal. If you plan on polishing glass and/or crystal, we suggest purchasing the glass/crystal disc kit. This rock/mineral disc kit does NOT include the 180# electroplated diamond lap; those are available for purchase in a variety of different grits here.

Hi Tech is American made, with American spirit, quality & affordability

What can be said is this, first off I am a professional part time gem cutter, world class opal mainly. Across the 45 years that I've been using my 6 inch "all you need" lap-cab machine, the only parts I even require are the wheels. I normally make my own wheels for manufacturing diamonds for science, however Hi Tech has already got me covered for my small lap. If I decide to cut some star sapphire, or ruby material, yes that will advance the wear on any diamond cutting surface & the Hi Tech system will require some new cutting disks, the foam & plastic wheels are always perfect & the balance is acceptable. Purchasing the press on style disks is always a joy, easy & worth every penny. Still available now since my machine was new, 45 years ago. I have a few of every grit offered. About a dozen wheels. A set for the kids, a set for my club members & a set for me. Agates, opals & harder materials. I build most of my machines myself, including a facet machine, even a 20" wet saw from scratch. But the time I save sitting down on my coffee table watching TV using my 6" Hi Tech all you need, what can I say? It's a great way to enjoy the hobby, even professional results are easily acquired.

Essential Lapidary Polishing Wheels

I've been using my 8" slant lap from Hi-Tech for three years now. In these years, using the Rock/Mineral disk kit, I have polished approximately 2,000 stones to a mirror finish. I did add the 3000 grit pad to my repertoire. Because I often have to do major shaping of my stones, I have also added the 60, 80, 180, and 220-grit electroplated discs to my inventory. This is the only "rub" to this review. Using these discs does cause wear to the discs, so replacing the discs has to happen. Hi-Tech suggests replacing after approximately 200 stones. So, doing the math, you might see that I should have replaced my discs ten times. (I think I'm only at eight.) That can get expensive. The good news is, however, one can continue using the discs after the 200th stone. The discs still do the job; however, it will take more time per stone. Follow Hi-Tech's description of care for these disks. Also, I suggest buying your first two sets with the backing plates. I know more expenses there; however, if you plan, you might save money in the long run by rotating disc stock (assuming you can remove the discs from the plates-lol). Finally, Every interaction and order I've had with Hi-Tech has been of the highest quality. This is a superior company that wants us to succeed! Thanks, Hi-Tech!!!

Definitely recommend

The quality of the products is great. There is prompt delivery, great products and exemplary customer service. When I was ordering additional discs for my slant cabber I ordered the wrong size. I was able to communicate with someone there who made sure the wrong ones didn’t ship and they quickly refunded me.

Great product

Ordered the Rock/Mineral disc kit and it came fast. This is a great set, and they fit perfectly on the backing pads that came with my 6" all-I-need polisher. I love that machine. Hi-Tech has great equipment and I highly recomend them.

So So

For the most part everything was ok, the only problem I have is that either the 1200 grit pad or the rubber backer pad I put it on is horribly out of balance, so I had to buy a new backer and 1200 grit pad at another $32.
